Recycled bits

Regular readers of my blog might remember when I bought these fabrics whilst op shopping back in early February. They immediately impressed me as complementing each other. It didn't take more than a few weeks before I started on this project but the last few steps have taken forever. This is a really fun bag and the inside is just as cute. I am not sure where it will end up. I have offered it to a friend who loves orange but after she accepted I remembered that her great love is green so I might make a green bag and let her choose which one she wants. The left over bag may just end up for sale!

Cute magazine holders

Today my ugly grey Marbig magazine holders went from this: to this:

with lots of glue and paper found in my daughters scrapping drawers.
I just wanted something pretty to house my magazines and other bits of paper that float around my sewing room but couldn't find anything within my budget or taste. I will eventually cover them with clear contact. (I know I've got a whole, brand new, still wrapped roll but since I saw it last week it probably won't surface again for another year! O dear!)

And for all of those who wonder how we spent our weekend, here are a few clues:
My 15 year old daughter runs a pet sitting service, minding pets either at our house or at their own. Due to an exceptional set of circumstance we had seven dogs and a bird at our place for a few days. Surprisingly, considering they did not all get along that well, the noise was very low. I have found that dogs who are loved and entertained, more often than not by their fellow dogs, are not destructive or noisy. Animals are like children. If they are bored you'll know soon enough, otherwise you might not hear from them for hours.

Bag of scraps

I just thought my friend might like her scraps back. After all I don't want them messing up my house!
So here they are wrapping up her baby shower pressies. So much cheaper than a $2 bag from the reject shop!

Collaboration on a nappy bag

Finally, some more sewing has been done here. Not in the sewing room, it is far too humid in there if you are pregnant (not me!) and not yet tidy.
My friend asked me to make her nappy bag after searching high and low for one that expressed her personality. This will be her fourth child and she knows what she will use and so didn't want a bag that looks like nappy bag. Just a large enough bag with straps that are long enough to fit over her pram handles (36").
So we collaborated. She bought the fabric that appealed to her the most in Spotlight. It is a canvas and absolutely wonderful to work with. The lining is a backed curtain fabric in a co-ordinating plain. Then she drew the plan which scared me because now I knew that I couldn't just work out how to make it as I went along. In the end my dear friend came to my house and I sewed and cut but left the design aspects to her. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and came up with the best bag. It is so 'her'.
And it doesn't look bad on her hubby either!
