More bags in my creative space

In response to all your lovely comments on my last bag I decided to make a similar one and pop it in my madeit shop.

I have also decided to make a couple of others and will put them in as soon as they are finished.
Here is the next one half way done.

T-shirt refashion

Take one Black Pepper t-shirt with a touch of bling
Cut a couple of inches of the hem.
Slit it down the centre.
Shape the neckline and undo and inch or so of the shoulder seam.
Sew beautiful cotton lace purchased by beautiful daughter whilst in New York along the bottom.
Sew more beautiful lace along the centre.
Do a touch of handsewing, including attaching some buttonsand neatening the shoulder seams etc.
Now you have a refashioned Black Pepper t-shirt jacket.

Hooray!

First clutch for New York

This is my first version as a trial of the pattern.
It is an all in one piece but next time I think I will add the flap in seperately.
I didn't like turning the inner corners although this may be the best way to have a neat, compact finish.
The lining has it's own reinforcement made by cutting heavy sunblock fabric to the exact size of the finished article and top stitching them together in a pleasing pattern.
I think that worked because it means there is no extra bulk in the seams but the piece is still stiff.
The strap is one of my Mother's necklaces.
Next time I need to use a smaller magnetic closure and place the magnet on the flap so there is less interference with credit cards.
Also a flat button would have been better than one with a shank.

My creative space

Why, o why do some projects fly along and others take forever, even when they shouldn't?

Could it be because they are forced out of us instead of flowing?

My creative space

Not much happening here this week but I have managed to cut out the pattern for a skirt for my oldest daughter.
Thrifted wool fabric and thrifted pattern.
I can't cut the material until my nerves settle otherwise I'll make a mistake with the lines.
I hate lines!
Any ideas on how to line a skirt with front pleats?

My creative space

Slightly more sewing on the little balnket.
Of course, it would be finished if my machine stiopped breaking the threads all the time.

My creative space

The only creativity going on around here has been in my head.
Inspired by what has come in the post.
A beautiful humungous layer cake of vintage sheeting sent by the generous Ange from Ange's Ramblings.
So delectable that I am not sure I really want to cut into it.
You just can't beat some of those old sheets for beauty.
Steph has used some of her vintage sheeting to make this gorgeous tissue holder as a thankyou for joining in with the Hope Sotie push.
Thanks Steph.

In other news, I have also creatively spent three hours this week before finally working out the best positioning of furniture in my living area.
You will undertsnd my difficulties if I tell you that the space is only 4.4m by 5.2m and contains three desks, a china cabinet. a three seater and two one seaters of chunky lounge and a vintage dining table with mismatched chairs.
O and one exercise bike which is used by family members.
And my mothers old treadle.
All in the one room and finally all making sense in their own zones.

Softies getting ready to fly

I haven't been able to design a softies since I was a kid making cloth dolls for myself.
And I can promise you that is a long time ago.

Fortunately my brain finally decided to co-operate this week and let me come up with a simple shape in keeping with my blog name.

I'm using vintage cloth for these first two and will let you know how they trun out before they wing their way to Queemsland.

Searching for my creative space

Is it here amongst the unfinished crochet and wool?
No.
Or here in that big basket of clothes waiting to be reinvented?
No.
Or here with all those doilies and scraps and books?
Not even here although I must say some of this is rather enticing.

Aha. Possibly it's here, hiding under yet another basket of crochet.

Yep. That's it.
I definitely like this combo.
I'll think this will turn into a folder too.

My creative space - trying to tidy it

I can't work in here.
I don't even know how it ever got so bad but it has been like this for a couple of weeks.
It is far too messy so I've decided, as my health allows, to work through this.
Behind the computer chair, which is empty again, is a gorgeous cane chair overflowing with clothes that need re-fashioning.
By the time I get to them the may no longer trigger my enthusiasm.
I am going to go through them again and put all that I want to work on in the basket below so that maybe the chair can remain empty for me to admire.
Wouldn't that be loverly?!!
This basket was one of two that belonged to my Mum.
The other one is downstairs in it's raw state but since yesterday this one has been wearing a coat of very watered down paint.
(Almost no paint in the tin plus almost all the water in the tap makes watered down paint, right! Also makes it real easy to spatter on the kitchen window when painting. Grrrr.)
I thought of using it as it was but decided that as the whole reason I did all that painting last year was to have a co-ordinated white space, this should be white too.

And here it is, drying outside in the dew all last night.

My creative space

When the Mum-to-be tells you she doesn't want one of your famous nappy bags because she has reclaimed her absolute favourite that you made for her sister yonks ago, what is a girl to do?
Buy singlets, because that is what she really needs?
Never!
Well, maybe just one.
(And if the're Bonds that is all you really can afford!)
So it's back to the drawing board and trawling google images to find pretty things they never knew they needed.
I've had heaps of fun making little cloth books until it came to the final binding. One is just pictures from a set, self bound; the other alternates random, colourful-or-not pictures with tactile materials.
The gorgeous wee froggie comes courtesy of this link and the other is the little man's bag so that I don't have to bother next year.
I'm also thinking about a couple of bibs using the brand new white towelling that just happened to be in the oppy fabric bin yesterday when I went back for the cushion cover I should have picked up last week for the bag.
If I seem more productive than usual, all I can say is that you get a whole lot more done by being stuck at home with a cold than when you are well enough to play Mum-taxi every day.

My creative space

My creat ive space is an a typical shambles. But I promise you I am working on a whole stack of folders for friends, although a lot of the projects haven't left the space of my mind yet.
Aaha! Here it is.
The first folder is nearly complete and would be if I had had any black elastic a couple of days ago.
And what is a girl to do, if on wending her way to the elastic shop, she stumbles upon a few op shops.
Which is why I can't finish the project until I have gazed to my hearts delight at all these lovely cotton/linen teatowels that have never even been used.
I did leave some for other people too.

Just when I thought it was safe.......

.....to turn this creative space back into a kitchen:
along comes another painting project!!!

DD1 has been leaving her library books in dangerous places (we have 3 indoor dogs) so when I saw a basket at the op shop for just $1 I knew my problem was solved.

Not that I actually used said basket for the books.

No it was too small for books but big enough to hold doggie medicines.
So I swapped the two baskets around, one in the shed and the other for the house.

The house one received a quick bath, long soak in the sun and then a whipe of paint.

I say a whipe of paint because I didn't dig deep with the brush this time. I simply applied small amounts of paint to large areas.

Just because I liked that effect on this basket.

For more effect, and to protect the edges of the library books, I swiped the lace centre cloth from the dining table (yes it was clean ladies) and tied it onto the basket, delicately arranging all the excess down the bottom.

Another problem solvered.....!

Still black and white in my creative space

This is meant to go in that black and white room to protect the black and white bedding from the black and white dog.
No kidding.
We just wont tell anyone that the padding is an old blue and white baby blanket bought at the op shop yesterday.
Or that if you turn it over you might find a little bit of purple to relieve the tedium.

More creative spaces here.

Last weeks creative space is finished

Started this one ages ago but the humidity and the listness that summer brings has finally been overcome and with a "whoopee" it was finally finally finished yesterday.
I showed a mutual friend of the new owner of it and she said it was a 'professioal job'. But I know that is just because I used the sort of material (3 pass blockout from the curtain shop!!) that will hold it's shape.
Speaking of shape, I shaped the single handle, making it wider at the bases, so that it would keep the bag more squarish than wedge shaped.
The inside is overloaded with pockets just for the fun of it.
The middle one has the all the family's nicknames on it because I had already pieced the light piece in before it occured to my slow brain that it stuck out like a sore thumb.
