To mow or not to mow

I have a feeling that I am really a hippy at heart.
I love to see a well manicured garden but a field of wild flowers puts my heart all a-flutter.
The little tableau in the middle of my rental backyard was to hide my son's attempt at helping me get rid of years of old paperwork.
The grass got a little bit black - ahem - and as we had an inspection a couple of days latter I needed to do something to pretend that we are respectable people.
I lugged nearly a dozen pavers from useless spots int the garden and put on a little show.
It looked really good.
Roadside finds on crisp orange square pavers embellished with a couple or three of potplants relocated from a few feet away.
Unfortunately, I left gaps between the pavers to increase their coverage and that allowed the weeds to thrive in our warm moist climate.
Now it's not just the weeds but the whole back yard that's thriving and I really like the overgrown look.

Trouble is we have an another inspection in two days time and I'm not sure whether prospective buyers (here's hoping they are investors who will let us remain) will agree with my view.

What about you?

Do you love the overgrown look or the perfectly trimmed yard?

  1. Currently I preferred well trimmed ... but that is only so that I can find children's toys!!!
In my heart I am a lover of a field of flowers... I think your backyard looks very sweet.

  3. Mow a path to the spot and then maybe a circle for the chairs but leave the rest! x

  5. Oh yes, i still have a 10 year old who quickly throws herself in front of the daisies to make chains before i'm a 'daisy killer' with the lawn mower. I just mowed & as fluffy & lush the garden looked, i do rather fancy it flat & sports worthy. My eldest is doing the front lawns now, saves my aching carpal tunnel hands, now they have puffed up to twice the size. Love Posie

  6. Did you see the episode of Grand Designs where the garden was a planted meadow? It was wild and just beautiful. That garden looks like the perfect place for a Blyton-esque picnic too.
