Words of Wisdom 1

Seen on an apron in Melbourne:

It's not burnt. It's gourmet!

(No - this wasn't in a restaurant - just a homewares shop.)

Last Post

Well, it may not be my last post but I am going away for a month to cold, cold Melbourne and may not have the opportunity to say anything for a while. Rest assured I shall still keep up with all of you though.

Instead of packing and setting my house to rights I have spent my last evening whipping up a bag for myself. The pattern is based on one from gretelies.blogspot.com. (Sorry. I am still having trouble with working this link thing.Sometimes it works for me and sometimes not. This time it isn't.) The fabric is a heavy, pure wool that I bought nearly 30 years ago on a sale table at Lincraft for $4.00. I always wanted to make a coat with it but it would have had to have been a sleeveless one because there wasn't enough fabric.

I cut out some lovely appliques but when I laid them on the bag panel they looked horrible. So the finished bag is just plain black with a couple of gorgeous buttons from my collection.

It has two zippered pockets - one attached to the top for valuables and another to the bottom for personals. I chose a burnt orange fabric for the main lining because I want to be able to see what is down the bottom and I think black is too dark for that.

Here tis!

Yes. It is another bag! The orders just keep coming. This one is for daughter number 2. She chose both fabrics as well as the flower appliques and buttons. The outside black is just homespun with a piece of vintage brushed knit to give it some definition. This is also helped by having a firm material for the lining. It has three zippered pockets as well as one for her mobile and a couple of pens. Despite the fact that I haven't used expensive fabrics except for the green, I have told her she has to look after it as it is an expensive bag. All that time on putting in zippered pockets for the safety of her valuables - just because I haven't worked out yet how to insert a zip at the top!!

I allow my daughters to tell me the exact length they want their handles which makes them very comfortable to use.

About half a year ago I promised a little six year old boy a bag with a green owl on it because I had made his sister a couple. Today I finally gave it to him. He immediately loked inside for pockets which weren't there as I had just made a morsbag with no lining. He was happy, though, when I pointed out the big one on the outside which has a secret pocket at the back of the owl.

Now I just need to finish off my black shopping bag but I seem to have run out of pep or something.

I am sew working!

Just a peek into what I'm doing at the moment. Lot's of "I want to's" are running through my head but I have to rush to finish this project, at least, because we are going away come Monday and I won't be near my machine for more than a month!!

Can you guess what it will be ?

These make me feel like I am going to fall down! (It's just the way I've taken the phot, silly me.)

On the road to Port

Port Macquarie that is! On the New South Wales mid north coast.

I had to go up there to get a couple of totally neglected teeth pulled so my daughter decided to come along and shop. I would have loved to call in on some second hand shops but that was not to be. Half an hour up the road we remembered that we didn't have any of the important paperwork so it was turnaround and head back home to pick it up. And then I thought of taking photos of old houses along the way but the all disappeared by the time I got game enough. So this is all I have to share with you today. Memories of a trip to the dentist.

This mountain always fascinates me. I would love to know how it was formed.

There were road works everywhere. The colour in some areas was such a deep red. The photo does not really do it justice.

Some one has done some amazing carving. There are three logs similar to this.

Here is a message for all of us!!

Now I have had my teeth pulled and the evening is falling.

Goodbye Port Macquarie. At least one person enjoyed their visit!

Beautiful Jewellery

As I haven't any of my own work to share with you, I thought I would show you some of my daughters.

I think she has the knack don't you? I am supposed to put these on Etsy but I have not finished setting up our shop.

Cheerio!
